CIS 487/587 Assignment 2
Fall 2023

For your second project you will need to design and implement a complete 2D computer game. You may create any type of game you wish and implement it on any platform approved by me in advance. I expect undergrads to use Unity. Your game needs to have reasonable storyline for its genre. Your game will need to make use of multimedia components in a non-trivial manner. You will find it easiest to do some type of arcade game based on the Unity 2D materials. You will need to have it the final version running for our virtual 2D Game Festival on 11-01-23. If you are an undergraduate student, you must work on a team of 3 or 4. Teams must have at least 1 and no more than 2 Section 002 students on them. Graduate students may work by themselves, but they may work with a partner or on a team. Students need to give me the name of their partner(s) on the course google sheet no later than 09-20-23.

This assignment will give you an opportunity to begin work on the specification and design for your game. Your game does not have to be original but should not copy an existing game. To receive full credit your game pitch document will need to contain non-trivial sections as defined below.

You project submission should be 5 to 10 pages long. (or powerpoint slide equivalent).  On 10-11-23 you will be assigned 3 game alpha prototypes to test and game pitch documents to review. You will have to upload your team document (presentation) and prototype to Canvas. Students will review them on-line and provide feedback. I will assign reviewers and you must use the canvas rubrics to complete the review. Power point with audio is preferred for the pitch document, but videos are allowed if wish. The authors of the game product are expected to upload a list of the people who gave them meaningful reviews and a list of the people who gave them valueless reviews. Partners are expected to evaluate the partner’s effort as well as their own by scoring them (0=nothing, 5=a lot) and providing a list of tasks you each completed. These participation reports need to be uploaded to canvas.
