Short Biography:

Dr. Mi obtained his Ph.D from the University of Toronto in 2001. Prior to joining the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Michigan - Dearborn , Dr. Mi worked for General Electric Canada in Peterborough from 2000 to 2001, designing large electrical motors and generators. Dr. Mi has a B.Sc and M.Sc from Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi'an, China in 1985 and 1988, respectively. He taught at Northwestern Polytechnic University from 1988 to 1994. He then joined Xi'an Petroleum Institute as Associate Department Chair and Associate Professor from 1994 to 1996. He worked at the University of Toronto as a visiting scientist from July 1996 to August 1997. He pursued his Ph.D degree at the University of Toronto from September 1997 to August 2000. During his past career, Dr. Mi has designed electrical motors and generators ranged from a few Watts to 40,000 kilowatts.

Dr. Mi is the past-Chair of the IEEE Southeast Michigan Section of IEEE Region 4. Dr. Mi has won top awards, including the the 2005 Distinguished Teaching Award, the 2009 Distinguished Research Award, National Innovation Award and Government Special Allowance, Science and Technology Awards, Gold Medal Patent Award, SAE Environmental Excellence in Transportation (E2T) Award, IEEE Southeastern Michigan Section Outstanding Professional Award, IEEE Region 4 Outstanding Engineer Award, and is a member of the Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) Honor Society. He has published 90 technical papers.

Dr. Mi is originally from China, a country with the largest population in the world. If you ever visit China, do not forget to see the greatest terracotta warriors and horses in the city of Xi'an. He would be glad to give you some advices on your personal or business tour!

Dr. Mi is the associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (2009-2011). He was the Associate editor of Journal of Computers, Circuits, and Systems (2007-2009).
