Basic Antenna & Probe Use in EMC Workshop
March 2, 2006

Featuring industry renowned speakers:
This FREE workshop will consist of a five part technical seminar. The goal of the seminar presentations is to provide practical information for the EMC engineer, designer or technician to actually use on the job! Demonstrations of the material presented will be conducted. Participants can informally meet with the speakers and view these hands on demonstrations that are designed to "drive home" the material presented. Sponsored by the Southeastern Michigan EMC Chapter.

IEEE Six Sigma Speaker

Six Sigma is a very important quality improvement process and many engineering companies now require engineers to be familiar with it. It is a statistical tool that attempts to systematically reduce variability in business or manufacturing processes, while also reducing defects. Our speaker, Mark Ciechanowski P.E., is a Six Sigma Black Belt from Ford Motor Company. At Ford they now require all engineers to have six sigma training at least uptill green belt and Mark also teaches a 3-day green belt training course at Ford. Attending this seminar will definitely improve your chances of getting a job! Please see the attached file that contains the speaker bio, and abstract of the talk. We will also be providing pizza and pop.

Chrysler Technical Center Tour
September 15, 2005 - Chrysler World Headquarters and Technical Center in Auburn Hills

This exclusive tour is being offered through Chrysler's Information Technology Management department's fall recruiting schedule. The tour will include behind-the- scenes access to the Chrysler Group's major engineering and computer operations including the data centers, environmental labs, and driving simulator. Lunch will be provided. The tour is limited to 20 people so please ket us know immediately if you are interested.

IEEE Region 4 Student Leadership Conference
May 22-25, 2005 - University of Nebraska - Lincoln

The IEEE student Leadership conference will be fousing on the topic of Team Work. Students will be divided in groups to work on a design competition and a challenge course. Please contact IEEE if you are interested in attending.

IEEE Region 4 Student Paper Contest
May 22, 2005 - University of Nebraska - Lincoln

The Student paper contest is only for undergraduate students and is about the student designs. There are only two entries permitted from each student branch in region 4. The entire expense for the two participants will be covered by the region. The contest will be held in collaboration with the region conference

IEEE Officers Outting
May 6, 2005 - Cranbrook Institute of Science

The officers for the current year and the newly elected officers for the next year will be visting the Cranbrook Institute of Science. This will give all the officers a chance to get acquainted and the new officers to learn about how to run IEEE next year.

IEEE Southeastern Michigan Section Conference

IEEE Student Professional Awareness conference

IEEE Elections and General Meeting

The IEEE elections for the next school year will be taking place on Monday combined with our monthly general meeting. There will be food as usual but no movie.

TARDEC Tour
March 25, 2005 - 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM - TARDEC World headquarters

We'll be touring the US Army TACOM's Tank Automotive Research, Development, and Engineering Center (TARDEC). The Tour starts at 9:00 AM sharp and we have to arrive there at least fifteen minutes early to sign in. We'll be leaving the school at 8:00 AM and will be carpooling. Please meet by the main stairs and the sliding doors in the ELB and be on time since the Army people are very punctual and strict.

IEEE Technical Presentation on National Radio Quiet Zone
March 16, 2005 - 1:00-2:30 PM - Room 144 SB

We have a guest speaker coming from National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Greenbank, West Virginia. He'll be talking about the National radio Quiet Zone, which is a 150 miles radius area around the green bank telescope. No signals are allowed to be passed through the area unless they meet speacial regulations.

Workshop: How to write a Research Paper

This is an event for graduate and undergraduate students. Professor Murphey will be discussing what writing a research paper is all about and what should be the content of the paper. She will also talk about the layout of the paper and the IEEE format for the paper. And finally, she'll discuss the difference between conference paper and journal paper.

SAO Holiday Party

Wildlife Interpretive Gallery - Detroit Zoo

The student Activities Office is giving all the Student Organizations a holiday Party. The Party is at The detroit Zoo Wildlife Interpretive Gallery on Friday, December 3, 2004 - 6-8 pm. Hors D'oeuvres and refreshments will be provided from 6:30 - 7:30 pm by Dining in the Wild. WUMD will DJ.

Here are some other details they provided: The wildlife interpretive gallery features a 2000-gallon salt water aquarium, permanent art exhibit, changing art exhibit, and of course, the butterfly garden which stays open until 8:00pm on the night of an event. Ice carving will be taking place directly outside the Wildlife interpretive Gallery and all guests of this event are welcome to observe the ice carving as well as walk through the zoo's lighted animal path from 5:30 - 9:00 pm. Local Choirs wil also be on the zoo grounds singing holiday music!

IEEE Robotics Team Meeting

The IEEE Student branch will be helping out the Intelligent Systems club this year with working on their robot. They already have a robot and we'll be helping them add various new features to the robot. The robot is autonomous, and our first assignment is to add a RC controller to the robot The robot should be able to switch between the autonomous and RC controlled mode. Please drop by if you'd like to get involved.

Meeting with ABET Committee

As you all know, UMD needs to get re-accreditted by the ABET committee. The ABET Committee will be visiting next week and the department wants IEEE students to come talk with the ABET committee. However, you only have to be CE or dual ECE to attend. This is a really important event so please attend!

Volunteering Information Meeting

This semester we'll be voluteering for the UMD Environmental Interpretive Center. They have a lot of fun activities such as Maple sugaring, photography, invasive species removal, community organic garden maintainence etc. They'll be giving us an intro on all the opportunities on Thursday so hope to see you there.

Rules:
-Each penny jar is for a specific ECE professor and is labeled as such
-If you like a professor, Donate as many pennies you like to his/her jar
-If you don't like a certain professor throw, nickels, dimes, quarters, or bills to his/her jar.
-Each professor's total Winnings will be calculated as such:
  1. Total Winnings = (Amount of money in form of pennies) - (amount of money in all other forms)
  2. The Professor with the highest total winning amount (or the smallest negative number) will receive a certificate from UMD IEEE for being the best ECE professor.

-Although the competition is for ECE Profs only, students from other departments may participate
-Professors may NOT offer extra credit or take off points for student participation in their favor or against them respectively.

General IEEE Meeting and Movie Night

We will be having a general discussions and event announcements. Afterwards, we'll watch the movie,the general discussions and event announcements. We'll be watching the movie Frequency. There will be popcorn and pop.

National Engineers Week Celebration Picnic
